These days you can design your own shed online and even pay with Bitcoin — pretty high-tech for a bunch of shed builders, right? But it wasn’t always that way. When Stoltzfus Structures started in 1975, it was just Gideon, a few helping hands, and a small Amish workshop in Lancaster County, PA. No fancy tools, just hard work, good wood, and a desire to help the neighbors.

Back then, we built simple backyard sheds by hand. Our quality and honesty spread fast, and soon folks all over Pennsylvania and New Jersey wanted one. By the early 2000s, demand had grown so much that we moved into a 65,000 sq ft shop that was 13 times larger than our previous shop and now it’s big enough for our team, lumber, and even a viewing deck where visitors can watch us build.

Today, we have about 100 team members that either work with clients or are crafting sheds, garages, pool houses, and saunas — still guided by the same Amish values of integrity and craftsmanship. Most of our builders come from Amish or Mennonite backgrounds, keeping that same care in every board we cut.

We’ve mixed old-world quality with new-world convenience, but our promise stays the same: build it right and treat people like neighbors.

From one small shed to thousands of custom structures across the country, our mission hasn’t changed. As Gideon always said, “We just want to keep building sheds.” And 50 years later, that’s exactly what we’re doing — only now, we build just about anything you can imagine.
